The Los Angeles Flute Orchestra (LAFO), founded in 1999, is a professional ensemble comprised of Los Angeles based flutists. The LAFO has become one of the most recognizable flute choirs in the Los Angeles area, performing at venues ranging from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Disney Hall - Redcat Theater, to the Palos Verdes South Coast Botanical Gardens and the Santa Monica Pier. The group has also been a featured flute choir at recent National Flute Association Conventions in Las Vegas and Anaheim. With a versatile and unique instrumentation featuring the entire flute family including some of the largest flutes in the world, as well as unique ethnic instruments, LAFO's style covers the full spectrum from baroque and classical favorites, to jazz, pop, contemporary and world music. The group is dedicated to the performance of original works and often collaborates with, and premieres works by local and contemporary composers. Whether on the concert stage, in the park, in the sanctuary, or at a private event, the group will present both original and traditional music heard nowhere else.

Nuestro Pueblo EP Recording
The LAFO recorded Nuestro Pueblo - Concerto for Low Flute Soloist and Flute Ensemble along with Smoke on the Water with Peter Sheridan, in April 2012. Nuestro Pueblo written by Peter Senchuk, was premiered at the 2010 NFA convention in Anaheim by the LAFO and Mr. Sheridan, and is a four movement work inspired by the Los Angeles landmark Watts Towers. Smoke on the Water is an arrangement of the classic Deep Purple song and features the LAFO's unique low flutes along with Peter Sheridan on an exciting improvised Bass Flute solo. You can hear live concert performances of these works on our new YouTube channel.
Winter Wonderland - Holiday CD
Winter Wonderland is the LAFO's second CD release and is a collection of holiday music that ranges from Nutcracker Dances and Arcangelo Corelli's Christmas Concerto to African and Ukrainian carols to Christmas and Hanukah favorites in traditional and jazzy arrangements. Check out the recordings page for more album info and to hear samples of the tracks.
All three LAFO Albums: Nuestro Pueblo, Winter Wonderland & Stroke of Twelve available at Forest Glade Music.
Nuestro Pueblo and Winter Wonderland available on iTunes and Amazon.
Winter Wonderland and Stroke of Twelve available at Flute World and CD Baby.
LAFO Low FLutes
The unique sound capabilities of the group come from our instrumentation and one of a kind low flute section. In addition to our plentiful Bass flutes and David Lamont's new Kingma Contra Bass flute, we are fortunate to have Roland Tso and his collection of Kotato instruments in our ensemble. His collection includes a Contra Bass, Sub Contra Bass (one of only 2 such flutes in North America) and the rare F Bass and recently added F Contra Bass (the only one in the world!). These flutes give the ensemble a highly resonant, dense and complex sound. You can hear the entire group of these flutes being played by Roland Tso, Jonna Carter, David Lamont and Joanne Lazarro on our recording of Smoke on the Water. Mr. Tso also recently premiered a new arrangement of March of a Marionette which featured him on the F Contra Bass Flute at our October 2012 Mt. Olive Concert.
